LED Rope Jasper Sign

I had a friend of mine who wanted me to build him a light up sign for our college, and I ran with the idea. I used a fifty foot spool of LED rope, and a six foot length of plywood.

The word "Jaspers" was traced in a continuous string in order to make a track for me to run the LED rope. I used a router to make the channel deep enough to hold the rope in place. To show only the parts of the rope that would spell Jaspers, I routed out each letter on top of the existing track on an additional piece of plywood. This top plate would get screwed down to the face of the sign.

The last thing I did was build a small bezel around the frame of the sign, and painted it white. It weighs a whopping 50 pounds, and is much larger than it seems. I made an attempt to hang it, but couldn't find wire that was sturdy enough to hold it up.
This project helped me brush up on my carpentry skills, and was a lot of fun to make. I may make smaller signs going forward, utilizing Adafruit's Neopixel light strips.
